Introduction to Scripts
Scripts are a great help in recording a sequence of steps which you want to apply to a number
of objects or images. For instance, if you have a set of scanned photographs, which all need the same corrections (perhaps colour balance, contrast and sharpening) you can record those steps, save the script file, and then you can apply it to any image or object. Another example is using a fill on text. After applying the fill, you want to use an effect, e.g. The Boss, and apply a drop shadow. If you start the recorder after you've applied the effect, and then record The Boss and the shadow effect, you can then rewind, apply a different fill, and quickly apply the two chosen effects again The initial effort pays off in accuracy (the correct sequence is followed, with the right settings for each step), and time savings.
To access the Recorder, select Window / Dockers / Recorder or use the shortcut key Ctrl+F3.
When you look at the recorder window, you will notice the controls at the bottom look like those on a VCR or tape recorder. Hover your mouse over each button, and the description will pop up. All you do, is press the record button, follow the sequence you wish to record, and press stop. Then, make sure to save your script. You can change it by deleting actions, or adding them, or disabling (and re-enabling) actions. This gives you complete flexibility. To run your script while you still have the recorder window open, simply press "play." Corel have provided some ready-made scripts. You will find them under Tools - Corel SCRIPT - Run Script. This will also give you access to the scripts you have recorded yourself. The script function gets very little attention in the Corel documentation, which seems very odd -- it is a very powerful part of the program. There are more scripts available from Corel's Designer.com website, and from other sources -- see using scripts (2) on this website.
