Introduction

What is Corel PHOTO-PAINT?

PHOTO-PAINT is a powerful bitmap editing package produced by Corel. It is part of the CorelDRAW suite and also used to be available separately. The current version is number 13 (released during 2005) which is only sold as part of the suite of programs, but I used Version 9 for these pages. All tips work in Version 10 and 11, though not necessarily in Version 8 or earlier.

PHOTO-PAINT is a terrific product, but takes some time to get used to. There are so many things you can do, that you may feel intimidated by it!

My recommendation is to buy the best book available and start doing some of the exercises described in it: Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9: The Official Guide by David Huss. This book is out of print, but the version 10 book is still available, and I guess that the one for version 11 will be published soon.

To quote Corel:

"From precision editing to original painting, Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 gives you the creative freedom you need to design extraordinary images for print or the Web.

Enhance images with lenses, masks and other powerful editing features. Create diverse painting effects with artistic media brush tools. Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 offers powerful image editing and painting."

On these pages, you will find a steadily growing number of tutorials, along with a selection of links. The tutorials cover sujects such as the use of masks, 3D effects on text etc.
